Hedwig Lieback
Hedwig is currently finishing her BA in American Studies which she has studied at the University of Leipzig in Germany and at the University of Texas at Austin. At UT Austin, she focused on Minority and Women’s Studies as well as Social Justice Movements in the US and Europe. She seeks to bridge the gap between activism, Cultural Studies, Literary Studies and its impacts on and usefulness for Social Justice. In the summer of 2016, she worked for a NGO in Berlin that promotes equality and anti-discrimination legislation. From March to June 2017, she was an Erasmus+ intern at the Margarida Losa Institute for Comparative Literature at the University of Porto. For the database She Thought It, she focused on female and genderqueer artists and scientists to increase their visibility and attribute important social changes to the people who took the streets—or the laboratories respectively—and made them happen. Her research interests include Cultural Memory Studies, Cultural Theory, theories of Social Justice, minority literature and the intersection of economy and culture.
